Darkside and Deus recently collaborated with each other and launched a new limited edition flavour. The flavour names could be quite confusing at first as they are named after each other’s brand name – Deus (Whiskey) by Darkside and Darkside (Strawberry shortbread biscuit) by Deus. Don’t worry, we will give you a better idea after reading our review below.

• DEUS by Darkside – a flavour of the single malt island whiskey with a pronounced tint of the smokiness and oakiness. The alcoholic taste is quite strong but not overwhelming in my opinion (or some people might find it too dense if they are not used to alcoholic taste). It lasts steadily without giving an unpleasant tastes after 20 minutes of smoking as some of the other similar taste would. It definitely tastes like whiskey. Can be packed solo or in a mix as a base, with flavours like honey, cherries, apple on top.

• DARKSIDE by Deus – a flavour of the popular Russian shortbread biscuits with raspberry/strawberry jam. It is always quite tricky to produce a balanced creamy flavour. Unlike the super satisfyingly sweetness that you may extract from German brand (like Hookain White Caek), very often we find that most of the dark leaf creamy flavours have a note of dryness or bitterness into it. There is no exception with DARKSIDE. The aroma gives out a dry tint of the cookie taste at the front and somewhere in the background we find a subtle note of strawberry/raspberry-like scent. Not too sugary, good for packing it as the base of a dessert mix. I recommend adding other berries flavour if you want to enhance the presence of berries taste or sweet flavours like caramel, maple syrup, cheesecake to slightly muffle the dryness of the cookies.

As for the collaboration itself, it is great to see brands making a joint effort in creating interesting products like this and driving the community forward, instead of pretending to be friendly competitors but backstabbing each other behind. Hats off to them!
